Youth services grant
YOUNGSTOWN — Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court announced the receipt of an Ohio Department of Youth Services one-year grant totaling $95,000 to assist in decreasing disproportionate minority contacts in the juvenile justice system.
Background statistics indicate that more minorities are in the system than other ethnic groups.
The grant entails funding for two juvenile diversion officers for Youngstown and other target areas in the county including Austintown, Boardman, Campbell and Struthers.
The goal is to divert minority juveniles from the court’s official docket. The judge said the juvenile court will be working in collaboration with local police departments, court personnel, schools and professors from Youngstown State University to ensure a positive outcome for this grant.
Grant supervisor will be Danielle Hilton.
