The Grammy Awards (8 p.m., CBS): The performances so often overshadow the awards at the Grammys, and this year should be no different. The star-studded lineup at the Staples Center in Los Angeles features 17 acts, including U2, Kenny Chesney, Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West, Carrie Underwood and Katy “I Kissed a Girl” Perry. In between, they’ll hand out plenty of hardware. Lil Wayne leads all nominees with eight, followed by Coldplay with seven.

“The Science of Sex Appeal” (8 p.m., Discovery): Arriving just in time for Valentine’s Day is “The Science of Sex Appeal.” It’s a program that vows to examine what attracts us to one another. Sounds fine, but that word “science” can be such a turn-off.

“The Wedding Crashers” (8 p.m., ABC Family): It doesn’t take science to figure out that Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are meant for each other in 1998’s “The Wedding Singer.” It’s good cheesy fun — except for that scene in which Sandler croaks out “Love Stinks.”

“HGTV Showdown” (9 p.m., HGTV): Two HGTV personalities vie to make over a couple’s abode. Trouble is, the couple can’t agree on anything they both like.

“1000 Ways to Die” (10 p.m., Spike TV): This new series chronicles the weird ways people have died.
