Eagle court for Herron
An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was last month at New Springfield Church of God for Samuel R. Herron, a member of Boy Scouts Troop 119, New Springfield.
Samuel’s Eagle Scout service project involved landscaping an area for a butterfly garden and developing a walking trail at the Hospice House in Poland, giving patients and their families a peaceful place to spend quality time together.
Samuel has been a member of the Boy Scouts since March 1, 1999, and has been involved in many activities including community service. He has participated in the color guard for a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game, Cleveland Indians baseball game and a Cleveland Browns football game.
Special awards include a proclamation from the city of East Palestine for beautification of the downtown area, World Conservation Award and God and Me Award.
He currently serves as junior assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 119 and den chief for Cub Scout Pack 119 and is a member of scouting’s National Honor Society, Order of The Arrow.
Samuel is a student at East Palestine High School, where he has been an 11-year honor roll and merit roll recipient. He is a member and award recipient of the U.S. Achievement Academy Leadership and Service Award and the U.S. Achievement Academy Honor Student, and a five-year member of U.S. Bowling Congress.
He also is a two-year recipient of Incentive Scholarship at East Palestine High School and was a participant of Presidential Classroom Global Health and the Environment in Washington, D.C., July 2008.
He is the son of Todd and Brenda Herron of East Palestine and grandson of John and Jane Guerriero of Warren and Tom and Donna Clawson of Pleasantville, Pa.
