BOARDMAN — The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will host the 13th annual Red and White Ball, which is scheduled for May 2 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.
As a prelude to the event, Michael Broderick, CEO of Turning Technologies, who has been named honorary chairman of the ball, was honored during a noon luncheon on Jan. 29 at the Youngstown Club.
The black tie evening of food, friendship and fun has grown over the past 12 years into one of the most prestigious events in the Mahoning Valley.
Proceeds from the ball will enable the Mahoning Chapter to help individuals in the community to prevent and prepare for disasters, and to provide relief for disaster victims in the area.
During the past fiscal year, the chapter provided assistance to nearly 150 families at a cost of almost $150,000, while assisting nearly 200 families through the Armed Forces Emergency Services during emergency situations. Since its inception, the ball has raised more than $1 million to support these vital programs.
Community support
The majority of the funds realized from the ball are raised through corporate sponsorships, program advertisements, ticket sales, a silent auction, and a live auction.
Once again, the silent auction at this year’s ball will feature a vast array of items from around the world that have been donated by local businesses and individuals, Among the items included in the live auction will be trips and sporting event packages. Rounding out the evening will be a dinner, catered by Mr. Anthony’s, and dancing.
