Markopoulos 50th anniversary to be celebrated

NILES — On Feb. 15, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Markopoulos will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Castle, Pa., was the setting on that date in 1959 as the former Beverly Painter and Mr. Markopoulos exchanged nuptial vows in a traditional Greek ceremony.

Mrs. Markopoulos was employed at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren from 1955 to 1961. She enjoys crocheting, cooking and gardening.

Mr. Markopoulos served in the U.S. Navy during the 1950s and retired from the post office in Warren, where he was employed 35 years. He enjoys reading books on philosophy, religion, politics, and history.

The couple have three daughters, Christy, Jamie and Michelle, and two grandsons, Bill and Troy Rice. A son, Geoffrey Thomas, is deceased.
