New Castle fire probed
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Fire marshals with the Pennsylvania State Police are still investigating what caused the fire at the East Wind restaurant.
Shenango Township Fire Chief David Rishel said the fire early Thursday was confined to the basement of the restaurant, which is on U.S. Route 422 near the city.
He said the rest of the restaurant received heavy smoke damage.
He did not have a damage estimate. Six other fire departments responded to the blaze, which was called in at 4:29 a.m, Rishel said. Union, Taylor, Slippery Rock and Neshannock townships and New Castle and South New Castle departments were there, he said.
Though the temperature was minus 12 degrees, firefighters did not have problems with water freezing, he said. No one was injured.
Man’s death investigated
BROOKFIELD — Police are trying to determine how a 50-year-old township man ended up dead behind a building a short distance from his home.
Police Chief Daniel Faustino said Charles Seaman, 50, of Warren-Sharon Road, had been reported missing Tuesday. By Thursday, still with no sign of Seaman, police brought in a search dog to check the area around his home.
Seaman was found dead at 4:09 p.m. Thursday behind a day care near his home. Faustino said there were no signs of foul play in the initial police investigation, but the case has been turned over to the Trumbull County Coroner’s office.
