“Gifted Hands” (8 p.m., TNT): The brain is a channel for miracles, says young Dr. Ben Carson, trying to explain why he has chosen to devote his life to neurosurgery.

Carson is the real-life hero of “Gifted Hands,” the latest in the worthy Johnson & Johnson Spotlight films on TNT. And he is a worthwhile subject for a TV drama: director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The film begins as Carson (played by Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr.) confronts a daunting challenge. Can he separate infant twins born with their tiny skulls fused?
