GM to lay off 600 workers at key plant in Mexico

MONTERREY, Mexico — General Motors says it will lay off 600 workers at a key production plant in northern Mexico due to falling demand in the country and in the United States.

Company spokesman Angel Sanchez said Thursday that the cuts will come in February and March at the factory in Ramos Arizpe in Coahuila state. The plant currently employs about 4,500 workers.

General Motors Corp. has some 12,700 Mexico employees. It dismissed 600 workers in the country last year when it stopped making the Suburban at its Silao plant in Guanajuato state.

For a fee, US Airways to offer ‘Power-Nap Sack’

TEMPE, Ariz. — If you want a pillow and blanket in coach on US Airways, it’s going to cost you $7.

US Airways said Thursday it will begin charging for its “Power-Nap Sack” Feb. 16. It’s following the lead of JetBlue Airways, which announced a similar policy last summer.

The kits include a 34-by-60-inch fleece blanket, a neck pillow, eye shades, foam ear plugs and a $10-off coupon for items in the SkyMall catalog. They come in a fleece drawstring bag embroidered with the airline’s logo.
