West Branch upends Canton South, 44-40
BELOIT — The West Branch High School girls basketball team took a 29-24 lead at halftime on Thursday and went on to upset previously unbeaten Canton South, 44-40.
Emilee Zets scored 14 points in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference game in the Warriors’ gymnasium. Michelle Sosnick pulled down 15 of 38 rebounds for West Branch.
The Warriors (11-5, 8-4 ) are in third place in the NBC standings while Canton South (17-1, 11-1) has first place.
The Warriors led 36-28 heading into the fourth quarter, then held off a late rally by the Wildcats.
Sharon Robinson led Canton South with 16 points. Tabatha McKinney added 11 and grabbed 10 of 40 rebounds..
Harding 66, Warren JFK 45
WARREN — Jasmine Kirkland scored 16 points and Aundrea Baldridge 15 for the Raiders.
Ronisha Howard and Kourtney Williams each had 11 points and 18 rebounds to lead Warren Harding (13-2, 2-0 Steel Valley Conference). Williams also had four assists.
Paige Klavic scored 15 points to lead JFK (7-8, 0-2).
Ursuline 61, Chaney 22
YOUNGSTOWN — Ursuline got off to a 21-4 start on the scoreboard as the Irish (6-7, 1-1 SVC) cruised.
Junior Lucia Petrus had 13 points and freshman Aurielle Irizarry added 10 points toward a balanced attack. Dominique Jenkins, a junior, pulled down 10 of Ursuline’s 39 rebounds.
Witni Sanders’ seven points led Chaney (7-7, 1-1).
United 48, East Palestine 21
HANOVERTON — Ruth Prosko scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds to help keep the Golden Eagles (16-1, 10-1 Inter Tri-County League Tier One) atop the league standings.
Hillary Hoppel scored 10 points.
For the Bulldogs (3-13, 1-10), Emily Castro scored eight points.
Springfield 61, South Range 42
NORTH LIMA — The Tigers (9-9, 6-6 ITCL1) pulled away from a close contest with a 19-8 surge in the third quarter.
Rachael Kennedy scored a game high 20 points and nine rebounds while Andria Lyons chipped in with 16 points.
Gab Naples led the Raiders (11-7, 6-6) with 10 points.
Lisbon 55, Mineral Ridge 38
MINERAL RIDGE — The Blue Devils (11-5, 7-5 ITCL1) defense held the Rams (2-4, 1-11) to four points in the first quarter, eight in the second and six in the third in building a 39-18 lead.
Megan Reynolds, Abbey Brammer and Mindy Jackson scored 13, 12 and 10 points respectively for Lisbon.
Abby Riffee led the Rams with 15 points.
Western Reserve 47, Leetonia 40
LEETONIA — Victoria Brown scored 12 points to help keep the Blue Devils (9-7, 8-2 ITCL2) in second place.
Colleen Kennehan scored eight points and made three steals while Matti Shahaden scored eight and made three assists. Jessie Keeler pulled down eight rebounds.
For the Bears (8-9, 6-5), Lynsie Davis scored 13 points while Ciera Cramer netted eight.
Sebring 48, Jackson-Milton 40
SEBRING — Jill Bragg scored 20 points to lead the Trojans (8-8, 5-6 ITCL2).
Taylor Ward scored 13 points while Taylor Nannah had 11. Sebring scored 18 points from the free-throw line.
For the Bluejays (0-17, 0-11), Alyssa Chine scored 17 points while Bethany Sitler and Katelynn Pirko had nine apiece. They scored 18 points on free throws.
Newton Falls 60, Champion 52
NEWTON FALLS — Kelsey McGregor poured in 34 points for Newton Falls (14-3, 8-0 All-American Conference Blue).
McGregor had 12 goals and converted nine of 13 at the line.
The Tigers made 21 of 40 free throws.
For Champion (7-8, 3-3), Erika Stevens and Heather Beachy had 13 and 11 points, respectively.
