Unbeaten Bulldogs topple Tigers


EAST PALESTINE — The East Palestine High boys basketball team used nine players as it posted a 55-36 victory over Springfield in a Inter Tri-County Tier One game in the Bulldogs’ gymnasium Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (13-2) continued unbeaten and in first place in the league standings with a 9-0 record and it was the second time this season that they beat the Tigers (8-6, 6-4).

Ben Gysin paced East Palestine with 17 points and he pulled down eight rebounds. Austin Cope added nine points and had seven assists. Travis Ritchey led Springfield with 10 points.

United 78, Lisbon 61

HANOVERTON — The Golden Eagles (8-3, 7-2 ITCL Tier 1) pulled away from a close game with a 22-8 surge in the third quarter. Jason Ramus paced United with 15 points. Zack Taylor and Zane Smith each had 11. Todd Pedurean and Anthony Lee led Lisbon (2-13, 1-10) with 19 and 15 points respectively.

Columbiana 55, South Range 53

NORTH LIMA — Kevin Blinsky pured in 28 points in leading the Clippers (10-4, 8-2) to the ITCL Tier One victory. Josh Harold added 12 points. Mike Chuey and Kyle Seaver led South Range (4-11, 3-8) with 13 and 12 points.

Western Reserve 76, Jackson-Milton 40

NORTH JACKSON — The Blue Devils (8-6, 5-5) built a 37-23 lead by intermission and the Bluejays (1-13, 1-8) couldn’t make up the difference in the Tier Two contest. Matt Hubbs paced the Western Reserve balanced scoring attack with 14 points. Justin Lude chipped in with 11 and Kyle Keeler finished with 10. Cory Bartek and Ben Carlile scored 10 points apiece for Jackson-Milton.

McDonald 70, Southern 54

SALINEVILLE — McDonald enjoyed a balanced attack and used a 20-9 scoring advantage in the final quarter to pull away. Nick Rota had 14 points, Devin Dansberg 13, Tom Orr 12 and Justin Rota 11 to lead McDonald (14-0, 10-0 Tier Two).

Justin Rota had five of his points in the final period to lead the late uprising. Ethan Blatch hit for 15 points, including five 3-point goals, to pace Southern (7-8, 4-6). Trey Griffith contributed 13 points and Andrew Diaz nine points, 13 rebounds and five assists to also spark the Indians.

Lowellville 66, Leetonia 52

LOWELLVILLE — Anthony Alfano scored 15 points, Matt Minnie 14, Mauro Amendola 13 and Anthony Schiraldi 11, as Lowellvile used a balance attack to dispose of Leetonia. Amendola had eight of his points in the final quarter where Lowellville surged with a 27-12 scoring advantage, aided by 7-for-8 from the foul line.

Joe Harris grabbed 11 rebounds for Lowellville (8-5, 5-5 ITCL Tier Two). Josh Selway tallied 19 points to spark Leetonia (7-8, 5-5).
