Chaney rallies past Christian for 1-point win
YOUNGSTOWN — Dom Brown’s layup with 8.7 seconds left capped a 10-0 uprising for Chaney and gave the Cowboys a 51-50 come-from-behind win over Youngstown Christian, in a nonleague basketball game at the Chaney gym Tuesday night.
Brown had nine of his 15 points in the final quarter as Chaney rallied from a 50-41 deficit with 10 unanswered points. Brown also had nine rebounds. Mike Parker added 11 points for Chaney (3-9) while Ken Strong had three assists and six points. Victor Shaw had 14 points, Olonzo Johnson 12 and Anthony Wallace 11 plus 11 rebounds and three assists to key YCS (13-3).
East 53, St. Thomas Aquinas 51
YOUNGSTOWN — Kenny Carter scored 20 points with six rebounds and three assists as East slipped past visiting St. Thomas Aquinas. Jarelle Burt added 16 points, six rebounds, two steals and five assists for the Panthers (8-5), who forced 20 turnovers. Ryan Snyder led Aquinas (4-9) with 20 points.
Maplewood 65, Lordstown 33
LORDSTOWN — Sean Zekkour registered 16 points while Luke Orth and Alex Doneyko had 10 apiece to lead Maplewood, which continued undefeated in the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Maplewood (14-1, 12-0 NAC) built a 34-21 halftime lead, and enjoyed a 25-9 overall goal advantage.
Billy Wright had 10 points for Lordstown (4-11, 2-9).
Bristol 55, Bloomfield 53
BRISTOLVILLE — Bristol, behind 24-17 at intermission, rallied to take a 40-34 lead and then held off a late Bloomfield rally. Chris Collins, John Evans and Andrew Holko paced Bristol with 16, 14 and 10 points respectively.
