Abraham’s layup lifts Boardman girls 35-33


CANTON — Emily Abraham’s driving layup at the buzzer snapped a 33-33 tie to give the Boardman High girls basketball team a 35-33 win over Massillon Perry, in the first round of the Federal League tournament at the Canton Fieldhouse Tuesday night.

Monica Touvelle had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead third-seeded Boardman (12-5), while Darryce Moore chipped in with nine points and Katie Fiffick had three assists.

Canton McKinley 71, Fitch 36

CANTON — Ameryst Alston scored 16 points to lead a balanced attack for the top-seeded Bulldogs (13-2), who outscored Fitch 22-1 in the third quarter to put the game away.

Erica Braxton scored nine points for eighth-seeded Fitch (5-11).

Mooney 55, Warren JFK 44

WARREN — The Cardinals (8-6, 2-0) pulled away from a close game as it outscored Warren JFK 20-14 in the fourth quarter. Katie Griswold scored 18 points for Mooney, while Dominique Zordich chipped in with 11. Paige Kleric led Warren JFK with 18 points and had four assists. Erin McBride grabbed six rebounds and she had four steals.

Salem 46, Niles 24

NILES — Brittany Ritchie hit for 17 points to lead Salem (13-3, 4-2 AAC Red Tier) Monday night.

The Quakers built a 22-10 halftime lead over Niles (0-17, 0-5), which made only eight goals.
