8 brave cold to get additional Pavlik tickets at Chevy Centre
YOUNGSTOWN — There were only eight people standing in the lobby of the Chevrolet Centre when the box office opened at 10 a.m. today to sell additional tickets for the Kelly Pavlik fight Feb. 21 — but not all of them were there for the fight.
Some said they were buying tickets for other coming events at the Centre.
Joe Farrow, 24, of the city’s West Side, came looking for fight tickets after being unable to get them when they first went on sale Jan. 10.
“I got here and there were about six people here. I expected a lot more,” Farrow said, adding that he didn’t arrive until 9:45 a.m. and feared he wouldn’t be able to get any tickets.
The center put about 400 floor-level tickets on sale today at $150 each.
Nia Simms, also of Youngstown, was working the last time tickets went on sale. She got to the center this morning and bought three, saying they are to be a surpise for some family members.
“I expected a bigger crowd. That’s why I was here at exactly 10,” Simms said.
She sees Pavlik’s middleweight title fight against Marco Antonio Rubio before a crowd expected to reach 7,000 as a plus for Youngstown.
“It’s good to see something positive come out of Youngstown. You always hear about the negatives, and it’s good to hear about some positives,” Simms said.
Pavlik actually likes the city and is a good role model, especially for young boys, she said.
