Patron, server comment on Denny’s free breakfast promotion
BOARDMAN — More than 500 people strolled though the doors of Denny’s on U.S. Route 224 in Boardman by 10:30 a.m. for a free Grand Slam breakfast.
The restaurant’s promotion is for a free breakfast for dine-in customers. It started at 6 a.m. and will run until 2 p.m. today.
“I’m here just about everyday, so I help where I can,” said Jean Shoemaker of Boardman who is a Denny’s regular.
Shoemaker helped pour coffee to the customers sitting at the counter and said she would wait for the craziness to slow down before ordering her Grand Slam — two eggs, two pancakes, two sausage links and two slices of bacon.
“I’ve seen it crowded, but not like this,” she said.
Denny’s server, Renee Stocker, said in 25 years she never saw the restaurant so busy.
Stocker had no time to talk while carrying trays with four Grand Slams and all the condiments to go along with the breakfast.
“Just laugh and smile,” she said while making one of her many trips back to the kitchen to reload.
