Cooper’s 24 points lift YCS; Chaney moves above .500
East held off East Cleveland Shaw, while Beaver Local and Brookfield earned wins.
YOUNGSTOWN — Kristi Cooper fired in 24 points to lead Youngstown Christian to a 54-36 victory over Our Lady of the Elms in a girls basketball game Monday night.
Caylin Hayes addde 11 points and Sara Bell 11 rebounds for Youngstown Christian (4-12), which enjoyed a 32-11 scoring advantage for the middle two quarters.
Amber Matthews tallied 10 points for Elms (5-10), an Akron school.
Chaney 54, East Liverpool 52
YOUNGSTOWN — Marcinde North scored 13 points, Alyssa Sykes had 11 and Shaquilla Lawson 10 to lead Chaney (7-6), which outscored East Liverpool 16-7 in the third quarter and held on in the fourth. Danielle Brooks added nine points and 11 rebounds and Laniece McRae had 12 boards.
For East Liverpool (6-9), Britney Tomaselli had 17 points and seven rebounds and Sara Guthrie added 15 points and eight rebounds.
East 57, Shaw 54
YOUNGSTOWN — Briana Dawson scored 14 points and Reshayla Taylor had a double-double to lead East in a non-conference game.
Dawson also had eight rebounds, six steals, five assists and four blocked shots for the Panthers (7-7), while Taylor finished with 12 points and 18 rebounds.
Lenay Simms scored 22 points for Shaw (4-8). She also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Beaver Local 33, Hubbard 31
EAST LIVERPOOL — Macy Weber managed eight points for Beaver Local, which held off Hubbard in the final quarter.
The Beavers (11-6, 4-1 ACC White Tier) took a 30-25 lead into the final quarter, where they were outscored by the Eagles, 6-3.
Michele Starkey had 10 points for Hubbard (6-12, 2-4).
Brookfield 52, Girard 38
BROOKFIELD — Paige Wallace finished with 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Brookfield in an All-American Conference game.
Ashley Swezey added 10 points and Kodi Brenner had eight assists for the Warriors (9-7, 4-3 AAC Blue), who led 22-15 at halftime.
For Girard (3-12, 0-5), Bryanna Jay scored 16 points and Caroline Standohar added five rebounds.
Bristol 37, Lordstown 31
LORDSTOWN — Allyssa Giesy and Eden Duka each had 10 points for Bristol (4-11, 4-7 Northeastern Athletic Conference), which managed to win the poor-shooting game by both teams.
Lindsay Harrison had 13 points for Lordstown (9-7, 6-6), which made only 10-for-61 from the field to Bristol’s 12-for-53.
West Branch 51, Carrollton 37
BELOIT — Katie Sellaroli scored 13 points and Lacey Sanor added 10 for the Warriors in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Michelle Sosnick added seven points and seven rebounds for West Branch (10-4, 7-4), which outscored Carrollton 25-12 in the second half.
Erin White had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Carrollton (2-15, 1-10), and Tessa Sanders finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Southeast 51, Akr. Coventry 35
RAVENNA — Mya Levels scored 20 points to lead Southeast in a Portage Trail Conference game.
Lauren Klouda added seven points for the Pirates (4-11, 2-9 PTC Metro), who led 25-9 at halftime.
Mandy Milltoan and Rebecca English led Coventry (6-8, 3-7) with 11 points each.
