Break-ins reported at 3 Salem businesses

STAFF REPORT

SALEM — Three businesses were broken into late Sunday or early Monday at the Broadway Plaza, 200 E. Second St.

Police Chief Robert Floor said the break-ins were reported at 8 a.m. Monday.

Employ-Temps Staffing Services, Bahama Bay Tanning Salon and Main Moon Restaurant were hit.

The back doors of the companies were found open, so officers were not sure how the thieves entered. Once inside, the thieves broke through inner walls to reach the other businesses.

The would-be thieves got only a small amount of change from the three businesses, police said.

Main Moon was the only one of the three businesses that was open late Sunday. Police said workers left by about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

The city police department has asked the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to help with the probe.

A fire wall prevented the thieves from breaking into Cheap Tobacco in the plaza, which was the target of an armed robbery Jan. 20. A worker told the would-be robber to leave since she had triggered an alarm. Police later found a gun nearby that might have been used in the would-be robbery.
