souper bowl of caring | Fundraisers at Valley churches


These are among youth groups at area churches who participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring program on Super Bowl Sunday or other projects to help those in need.

Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty: Youths sold pies to underwrite a mission trip to Toronto this summer.

First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown: Youths from the church collected monetary donations and nonperishable food items in large soup kettles. All proceeds go to the food pantry at Protestant Family Service.

First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., Mineral Ridge: Youths of the church challenged the congregation to think of others in need. They collected nonperishable food items to help stock the Community Food Cupboard housed at the church. As members exited the church, youths collected monetary donations in soup pots. Funds benefit Niles Community Services, which serves those in need in the Niles, Weathersfield and McDonald area.

Girard United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St., Girard: The youth group numbering between 15 and 20 members collected canned soup and monetary donations. Recipient is the Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girard.

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman: Youths of the church collected monetary donations to benefit Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.

Mahoning United Methodist Church, 2214 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown: Members wore sports jerseys supporting their teams this weekend. Cans of soup were collected for the church food pantry.

St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown: Youths at the church collected canned goods that went to the church food pantry. Monetary donations will benefit the Red Door Cafe at the church, a free feeding program on Sundays.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield: The confirmation class passed soup pots during the offering on Super Bowl Sunday. Donations are for Lutheran World Hunger Relief.
