AUSTINTOWN — A sock hop will be sponsored by The Knights of Columbus 3930 from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center, 4490 Norquest Blvd., as a benefit for the Sullivan Family, IHM parishioners who are recovering from an auto accident.

Tickets are $10 per person. Pizza, wings, chips and pretzels will be served. Setups will be provided for the BYOB event. Patrons may also take their own appetizers.

Featured will be music by JP Jam, a Chinese auction, a 50-50 raffle and prizes for the best dressed.

Winter garden seminar

YOUNGSTOWN — On Feb. 19, the Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown and Ohio State University Extension of Mahoning County will host their 4th annual winter seminar at the Davis Center in Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park.

Horticultural experts who will conduct four 75-minute educational sessions at the seminar are: Sally Miller, plant pathologist, who will discuss “Garden Diseases Research”; Gayil Wetherell-Sack, who will demonstration how to make a collage with plant material; Amy Stone, whose talk will be on “The Emerald Ash Borer/The Green Menace”; and Barrie Kridler of Kridler Gardens, who will present instructions on containers and container gardening.

Howland report ready

HOWLAND — The Howland Township Park District’s annual financial report for fiscal year 2008 is complete and available for viewing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the township government building, 205 Niles-Cortland Road N.E. (state Route 46).

LEGO competition set

NILES — The Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall will have its first LEGO League building competition in the mall’s Center Court from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7.

The contest will feature pupils from various schools in the area.

At 3:30 p.m., the Art Outreach Gallery will feature the Boardman Center Middle School Orchestral Ensemble.

Open house at shelter

LORDSTOWN — The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County shelter, 545 Brunstetter Road S.W., will have a Valentine’s Day Open house from 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 through 14.
