East Palestine crime watch group will have first meeting

EAST PALESTINE — The first meeting of the city’s newly formed crime watch organization will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bea’s Insurance, 31 N. Market St.

The meeting was originally scheduled for last week but was canceled because of the weather.

The city had a successful crime watch group in the mid-1980s and is looking to work with the National Crime Watch program to re-establish a local team focused on reducing crime in the city, officials said.

Last summer, under the wing of the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce, the city participated in the National Night Out event observed in communities across the country. National Night Out activities are designed to bring an awareness of crime and encourage communities to work together to fight it.
