Second vice chairman
Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has been elected to a two-year term as second vice chairman of the Ohio Judicial Conference.
The OJC is an independent panel that studies coordination of the work of Ohio’s courts, encourages uniformity in the application of the law and makes recommendations for improvements in the administration of justice.
Judge Durkin is chairman of the conference’s judicial education committee, co-chairman of its specialized docket committee and a member of its court administration committee.
Judge Durkin recently completed work as a member of the Ohio Supreme Court Task Force on the Code of Judicial Conduct. The task force conducted a comprehensive review of the code, which was recently revised.
In November, Judge Durkin was elected to his third term as a common pleas judge.
Elected 4th vice president
Judge Peter J. Kontos of the Trumbull County Common Pleas Court has been elected to the position of fourth vice president of the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association.
Judge Kontos of Warren has been a common pleas court judge since 1996, having begun his third six-year term earlier this month.
He is among a slate of nine judges elected to leadership positions at the organization’s recent winter conference.
The other judges elected are from the counties of Warren, Butler, Summit, Montgomery, Hancock, Wayne, Champaign and Delaware.
The common pleas judges association’s membership includes all general division judges of the state’s common pleas courts, and its mission is to improve the law, the legal system and the effective administration of justice.
