Kiwanis plans radio auction

YOUNGSTOWN — The 55th annual Radio Auction to be sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Youngstown will be broadcast by WNIO 1390-AM from its studios at Clear Channel Communications in Boardman from 5 to 11 p.m. April 2.

The theme for the event is “55 and Fantastic,” which will offer bidders quality merchandise and services donated by local merchants, service businesses, manufacturers and individuals. More than 116 items were featured in the 2008 auction, which raised more than $25,000 during the live, six-hour broadcast. Since its inception the live auction has raised more than $500,000 for service projects that improve the lives of children and families in the Youngstown area.

Proceeds from the auctions have benefited a variety of organizations including the Youngstown City Schools, First Night Youngstown, Meals on Wheels, the Boys and Girls Club, Junior Achievement, Big Brother/Big Sisters, Neighborhood Ministries, Volunteer Service Agency, and OCCHA.

In addition to businesses that have been contacted for donations, the club welcomes new business and individual donors. To donate or for more information, contact the club at (330) 565-7189. Each donor will benefit from publicity as the event is widely promoted on radio, television, via the internet, and on the Kiwanis Web site, www.youngstownkiwanis.com.
