Pa. trooper faces obstruction, threat charges
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania state trooper is accused of trying to halt a child molestation case by intimidating an assistant district attorney.
Trooper Barry Tangert Jr., of Harrisburg, was arraigned Tuesday in Cumberland County Court on charges of obstruction, threats and improper influence in official and political matters and related counts.
District Attorney David Freed said the 45-year-old trooper tried to intervene in the case involving two friends by asking to re-interview the victim to get her to recant her story, and then threatening to arrest the prosecutor on the case.
State police say Tangert has been suspended without pay.
Tangert and his attorney, Dusan Bratic, declined to comment after the arraignment.
