I-79 north reopens after crash this morning

PORTERSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Northbound traffic is flowing again on Interstate 79 north of Pittsburgh, after those lanes were closed for more than six hours after a tractor-trailer crash.

Police say the driver, 59-year-old Thomas Long, of Union City, has been jailed on a charge of drunken driving following the crash about 1:15 a.m. today.

State police closed the northbound lanes between the Portersville and Slippery Rock exits after the tractor-trailer jackknifed, overturned and spilled its load of grape juice more than 30 miles north of Pittsburgh,

Police say the driver’s blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit before he crashed. The driver was taken to the Butler County Jail.

State police reopened the highway about 7:45 a.m. after the wreckage was cleared.
