All you need is LUV to assist United Way

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. — When it comes to raising money for the United Way of Mercer County, a little LUV goes a long way.

Live United Volunteers club members receive Live United T-shirts, on which they collect signatures at $1 each. Prizes are awarded for reaching a certain number of signatures.

The LUV Club was initiated by Tina Cascio, a human resources specialist at St. Paul Homes in Greenville as part of the organization’s annual United Way employee campaign. To date, 112 St. Paul’s employees have collected $2,232 worth of LUV signatures.

The project has expanded to include Sharpsville schools, where the goal is to raise $4,000.

Fifth-graders are working to collect 25 signatures each. Members of the middle school student council are seeking 50 signatures per shirt. Members of the Sharpsville High School Students for Charity are looking to collect 100 signatures each.

LUV Club members earn prizes for collecting signatures. Each person who earns $1 receives a heart cup participation prize. Other prizes include:

Silver Level, for 25 signatures: United Way pen and pencil and heart cup.

Gold Level, for 50 signatures: United Way water bottle.

Diamond Level, for 75 signatures: Padfolio with calculator.

Platinum Level, for 100 or more signatures: United Way Sling Bag.

Special prizes will be awarded to the first student to reach 100 signatures, the student who collects the most signatures, and the student whose T-shirt is judged to be the most creative.
