Rotary donates to Sal. Army

The Boardman Rotary donated personal hygiene products to the Salvation Army in December. About 40 members of Rotary attended the presentation at the Salvation Army’s Glenwood Avenue location. More than 300 kits containing items like shampoo, soap, deodorant and toothpaste were distributed.

The idea for the donation came from Rotary member Gregg Riddle, who learned from Salvation Army officials that people using food stamps cannot purchase personal hygiene products through the food stamp program.

Riddle contacted the larger Rotary District, which provided a grant to the Boardman Rotary to donate items in addition to what was already donated by the Boardman Rotary.

“We are very pleased to be able to do this,” said Rotary President Bob Mastriana, adding that the Rotary is also responsible for 11 of the Salvation Army’s red kettles this year.
