Rescue Mission collection continues

The Adult Education Medical Assistant Program at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center is having a community outreach drive for the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Items needed include canned foods, first-aid items and toiletries.

Drop-off locations are Mahoning Count Career and Technical Center on Palmyra Road in Canfield, Wedgewood Pizza on South Avenue in Boardman, Austintown Surgery Center on North Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown and Walgreen’s Pharmacy on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown.

Let the kids read to dogs

Readers of all levels and abilities are welcome to sign up to read to registered therapy dogs at the Canfield Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25. The program helps develop reading skills, promotes confidence and encourages a love of reading.

Readers may bring their own book and must register by calling 330-533-5631.

You can be a hot chocolate taste tester

The Friends of the Library is sponsoring a hot chocolate tasting from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. Visitors can warm themselves with a variety of hot chocolates and then vote on their favorite. The results will be posted.

Canfield Spinning group meets on Jan. 4

The Canfield Spinning Group will meet the first Monday of every month starting Jan. 4 at the Canfield Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. Beginners through very advanced are welcome to attend this fun and informal fiber spinning group. For more information, contact Barb Moff at 330-774-7703.

Canfield library hosts Guess “N” Go on Jan. 11

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring Guess “N” Go - Do You Know? at the Canfield Public Library during library hours from Jan. 11 to 16. Children grade K-6 can guess the number of items in a jar. The closest guess wins.

Library offers Fun Time for 4’s and 5’s

The Canfield Public Library is hosting Fun Time for 4’s and 5’s at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays in January. The program provides developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhyme, finger play and other activities for children age 4 to 5 and will help children become successful readers.

Identify popular candy bars that have lost their wrappers at the Canfield Public Library during library hours in January. The Friends of Library are sponsoring the activity and prizes will be awarded.

Canfield swimmers serve pancakes

The Canfield High School swimming and diving team will host its annual pancake breakfast Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Tickets are $6 per adult and $4 for children ages 3-10. Swim team members are selling tickets.

Library hosts Bonding With Babies and Books

The Canfield public library will host Baby Brilliant: Bonding With Babies and Books Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. The program features developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays, and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For infants from 6 to 23 months. This program is also available for toddlers ages 2 and 3, Tales and Talks for 2s and 3s, on Jan. 5 and 12 at 10 a.m.

Fairgrounds host Jingle Bell Run

The Canfield Fairgrounds will be site of a 1‚Ñ2 mile race and 5K run/walk to raise money for Hospice and The American Cancer Society. The event will take place Thursday and all participants will receive an award. A kids race will start at 12:45 p.m. and at 1 p.m. the 5K walk will begin. Canfield trustees meeting is Jan. 4

Township trustees will meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 4 at the township hall, 21 S. Broad St. This will be the first meeting for incoming trustees Marie Cartwright and Tony Bettile, who were elected in November to full terms. They replace J. Randy Brashen who was defeated, and William D. Reese who did not seek re-election.

Jim Frank Trio performs at First Night

Jim Frank Trio will perform at 9 p.m. at St. Michael’s Family Life Center on Thursday as part of Canfield’s First Night. The trio will play a wide variety of musical styles including big band, swing, polka, waltz, latin and Sinatra songs.
