Middle school wrestlers win tourney

Under the direction of coach Steve DiMaiolo, the Canfield Middle School wrestlers won the Canfield Challenge Middle School tournament Dec. 12. This is an annual event with 10 teams competing. The tournament format is two pools with five teams in each. The winner of each pool competes for the team title. Canfield went 4-0 in pool matches and defeated Girard 51-42 for the championship. Winning all five of their matches were Kyle Hido (86 pounds), Stephen Daprile (92 pounds), Korey Frost (104 pounds), Cody DeRamo (160 pounds) and Curtis Burns (heavyweight).

Canfield Baseball Club sign-ups end Feb. 15

The Canfield Baseball Club is accepting registrations for the Spring 2010 baseball and softball seasons. Registration is online only at www.canfieldbaseball.com.

No walk-in registrations or mail-ins accepted. Deadline is Feb. 15, 2010.

Wrestling goes to Medina

The Canfield varsity wrestling team will compete at the Medina Invitational Tournament on Monday at 9. a.m. and Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Medina High school. Wednesday, the junior varsity team will wrestle at Lake JV Invite at 10 a.m.

Canfield High School boys basketball plays Mooney

The CHS boys’ junior varsity basketball team will play at Cardinal Mooney High School Tuesday at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity boys’ team at 7:30 p.m.

Canfield varsity wrestlers off to a good start

Under the direction of Coach Dean Conley, Canfield High School wrestlers started their season with a second place finish at the J. Walsh Memorial Duals in Cuyahoga Falls Dec. 5.

Notable performances for the event went to Mark Douglas and Alex Benedict both 5-0. Benedict and Andrew Rapone were named wrestlers of the week.

The following week, the Cardinals competed in a tri-meet in Austintown against the Fitch Falcons and Beaver Local.

The Canfield wrestlers were victorious over Austintown 45-26 and lost to Beaver Local 46-27. Robby Reed and Jake Dunbar were wrestlers of the week.

The Cardinal team competed in the Super Ten Duals in Strongsville on Dec. 12 where they finished fourth out of 10 teams.

Cardinal Boys Basketball Classic set in Canfield

The boys basketball classic in Canfield is accepting fifth and sixth grade teams for pool play on the weekends of Jan, 8 and Jan. 15. The championship round will be contested Jan. 17.

Reserved seating available for basketball games

Canfield High School is selling season reserved seating ticket packages for girls’ and boys’ basketball games.

The reserved seats have back rests and are located at center court on the new north side bleachers.
