“Community Connection” (6:30 a.m., WFMJ Channel 21; rebroadcast at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday on Time Warner Cable community access channel): First Night is a community celebration that helps to foster the appreciation of arts, culture and positive entertainment. There are three First Night celebrations in the Mahoning Valley. Representatives from all three will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss their respective events. Suzanne Heino will discuss First Night Canfield; Mike Grimstead and Bill Schilling will discuss First Night Salem (along with a performance by steel drum band Sugar Tree Alley); and Brooke Slanina will discuss First Night Youngstown.

Finally, Susan Viars from Mahoning Safe Communities will discuss the importance of not driving “buzzed” over the New Year’s holiday and selecting a designated driver.
