Woman's identity known, but withheld

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The body of a woman discovered along County Line Road in shenango Township has been identified as a 40-year-old New Castle resident.

Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga said he's withholding her identification until out-of-town relatives are notified.

An autopsy is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today to determine the cause of death.

The body was discovered around 5 p.m. Wednesday by a Shenango Township police officer who stopped to help a disabled tractor trailer at the side of the road.

State police are handling the investigating.

Shenango Officer Brian Magliocca said he stopped to help the truck driver, who was stuck by the side of the road after picking up a load in a nearby industrial park.

He said he looked over the side of a low bridge between Progress Road and Fairground Avenue and saw the woman, partly covered with snow, on a bank beside a shallow creek.

He said he couldn’t tell if oul play was involved in her death.
