Man to be released early from prison

The victim’s wife asked that the defendant serve the entire two years.

WARREN — A Stoneboro, Pa., man who killed a Liberty motorcyclist and left the scene in 2007 will be out of prison by Christmas after being incarcerated one year.

Dwayne M. Redinger Jr., 23, was convicted of misdemeanor aggravated-vehicular homicide and felony tampering with evidence and failure to stop after an accident for killing Michael D. Brown, 38, a father of three from Sampson Drive.

But his attorney, Dan Keating, asked Judge John M. Stuard of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court for Redinger to be released, and Judge Stuard granted it Tuesday.

Brown’s wife, Dawn, spoke in court during a hearing last week, saying she thought Redinger deserved to spend the entire two years behind bars.

But Judge Stuard said he considered giving Redinger no jail time during Redinger’s sentencing hearing in February but is satisfied that a year in prison is enough. Redinger has no previous criminal history, and most defendants get probation on a first offense, Judge Stuard said.

Redinger will remain on probation for five years after his release Dec. 24. That day marks the end of one year in state prison and the Trumbull County jail.

The accident was at state Route 82 and Collar-Price Road in Brookfield.

Redinger was southbound on Collar-Price in a pickup when he entered the intersection, hitting Brown as Brown traveled west on Route 82. Brown had no stop sign, but Redinger did.

Redinger fled the scene and removed a distinctive window sticker from the truck.

Nine months later, after police received an anonymous letter, they interviewed Redinger. He surrendered to police and admitted his role in the accident a couple of days later.
