Oil ministers plan to leave supplies at current levels

LUANDA, Angola — The world’s biggest oil producers seem content with the price of oil and consumers may be just as satisfied, at least for now, with the prices they are paying at the pump.

OPEC prepared to meet in Angola, with oil ministers hinting Monday that they would leave supply levels where they are rather than tightening quotas again in an attempt to boost prices. Demand for gasoline and other fuels remains very weak, so they may have little choice.

Whirlpool acquires closed factory, plans to reopen

OTTAWA, Ohio — Appliance maker Whirlpool Corp. says it will reopen a northern Ohio factory that was shut down when a Canadian company announced it could not find a buyer.

Whirlpool isn’t saying yet how many people it will hire at the freezer factory in Ottawa when it reopens in January. About 150 people lost their jobs when W.C. Wood Corp. said in November that it would close the plant. Earlier this month, a court approved Whirlpool’s offer to acquire the factory.

Whirlpool says it plans to make freezers at the site through the spring of next year and will decide whether to continue production beyond that time.
