Dispatcher: Hunter suffered shot in head

HARTFORD — Trumbull County Emergency Dispatch said a male deer hunter died in the woods about 3 p.m. Saturday in the area of 3700 Custer-Orangeville Road.

A 911 dispatcher said the man fell out of a tree stand and suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. It is not clear exactly what happened.

Brookfield Township Fire and EMS crews and Hartford police responded to the scene, along with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The gun season in Ohio ends today.

Baby-sitter training

WARREN — The American Red Cross of Trumbull and Mercer counties will conduct a baby-sitter training course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Monday at the Red Cross office at 661 Mahoning Ave.

The course teaches the skills and confidence needed to baby sit and includes first-aid and safety skills.

Trumbull library hours

WARREN — The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will be observing the following holiday schedule: All facilities will be closed Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Jan. 1.

All libraries will close at 6 p.m. Dec. 31.

The library system includes the Main Library in Warren and branches in Brookfield, Cortland, Howland, Liberty, and Lordstown and Homebound and Bookmobile services.

Christmas magic show

YOUNGSTOWN — Tom Phoolery Productions and Happy Campers Learning Center, sponsored by Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., will present a Christmas magic show at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Tom Phoolery has been presenting children’s shows for some 25 years in the Youngstown area. Tom and Santa will perform magic. Santa will give gifts to neighborhood children, and the church will provide Christmas baskets to needy families of Happy Campers.

Festival of Lights set

YOUNGSTOWN — City Councilman Jamael Tito Brown, D-3rd, along with various block-watch and community leaders, will host a Festival of Lights and Decoration Tour of the city’s North Side from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The tour will begin and end at the Heart Reach Ministries, 211 Redondo Road.

The tour will showcase the homes and spirit of the citizens of the community.

“This is a way to display the talent and creativity of those who live and work on the greater North Side of Youngstown,” Brown said.

The tour bus will begin going through the neighborhoods at 5:30 p.m.

Anyone who wants to participate has until Wednesday to decorate. All participants are asked to have all their lights on and ready for viewing by that date and time.

Prizes will be given to the winners selected.
