Cunningham 50th to be celebrated at open reception
NEW WATERFORD — Mr. and Mrs. Don Cunningham, 48771 state Route 14, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 27 during an open house reception from 1 to 4 p.m. at East Palestine Community Center, adjacent to Rainbow Dreamland Playground in East Palestine City Park.
Hosts for the event will be their children and their spouses, Donald and MaryAnne Cunningham of Elyria; Mike and Gretchen Cunningham of Santaquin, Utah; David and Karen Cunningham of Mukilteo, Wash.; Bridget Cunningham of Columbus, Ga., and Theresa Cunningham of New Waterford. The couple have 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cunningham and the former Susie Vaughan were united in marriage Dec. 28, 1959, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in East Liverpool.
Mrs. Cunningham graduated from the nursing program at East Liverpool City Hospital in 1959 and worked several years at St. Elizabeth, South Side and East Liverpool hospitals. She retired in 1998 after 20 years as a Salem Area Visiting Nurse and was involved with Meals on Wheels until 2008.
Mr. Cunningham worked in a local dairy after graduation from high school. He served with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, stationed in Germany for 18 months. He worked at the local dairy and Crucible Steel until 1966, and then at General Motors at Lordstown until retiring after 30 years of service.
The Cunninghams have been members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for more than 40 years. He is a member of East Palestine Moose Club.
