UPDATE: Bar blackout remains for Pavlik fight
YOUNGSTOWN — Despite unconfirmed reports that a last-ditch effort is being made to sell remaining tickets for the Youngstown State University event, local bars will be prevented from showing the pay-per-view broadcast of the Kelly Pavlik vs. Miguel Espino middleweight title bout.
Art Gallegos, sales manager for G&G Closed Circuit Events LLC. in California, said he had not nothing new since Friday from Top Rank officials and confirmed tonight's bar blackout would be upheld unless he was told otherwise by the promotion company. As of Friday, thousands of tickets remained unsold for the Beeghly Center fight.
“[Top Rank Chairman] Bob Arum has not called me or told me any different, so as far as I am concerned the blackout is still in effect,” Gallegos said.
There have been reports that some area bars still plan to try and show the fight. But Gallegos said the blackout would prohibit the establishments from obtaining the signal.
Ross Scianna, who owns Jeremiah Bullfrogs Sports Bar and Grille in Boardman, said he hadn’t heard anything to contradict Gallegos. Scianna said he plans to operate tonight with the assumption the fight will not be shown outside of the arena.
