Carnegie-Mellon 59, Hiram 53

HIRAM — Hiram (0-8) was led by forward Alex Dellas with a game-high 14 points on seven-of-12 shooting and a game-tying high 11 rebounds. Brittany Mayle was the only other Terrier in double digits with 13 points. CMU (2-3) was led by Ali Aunskt with 13 points on four-of-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Jacki Cortese was second with 12 points to go along with 10 boards. Hiram will travel to Greenville, Pa., tonight for a non-conference game against Thiel College.

Ohio Weseylan 58, Bethany 45

DELAWARE – Despite sophomore Katelynn Hackathorn’s first career double-double, the Bethany women’s basketball team suffered a defeat. The Bison (3-7) got off to a sluggish start as Kayla Gordon hit two three-pointers and drained a trio of foul shots to give OWU (6-2) a 9-0 lead after three minutes. Bethany managed to get within a basket at 14-12, but went cold from the floor for the rest of the half and the Bishops surged out to a 29-18 halftime advantage.n Although OWU shot just 30 percent (10-33) in the opening period, the Bison made just 25 percent (7-28) from the field, including 10 percent (1-10) from the arc. Bison sophomore Anne Wilson hit a jumper on the first possession of the second half to make it a nine-point deficit, but it was the last time BC was within 10 points. Although they shot better in the second half (42 percent), Bethany’s comeback hopes were sabotaged by 18 turnovers and OWU was nearly perfect from the foul line (9-10), as they kept the Green and White at bay to post the victory. The defeat squandered a strong effort from Hackathorn, as she matched her career-best with 16 points and hauled down a personal-high 10 rebounds before fouling out in the final minutes. Freshman Kayla Taormina totaled 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Wilson dropped in all 10 of her points in the second half and added six steals. Friday’s game was Bethany’s last before the holidays, as they will not be in action again until Jan. 4 when they host Thiel at 6 p.m.
