Man convicted in ’07 fatal crash asks for early release from prison

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — A Stoneboro, Pa., man convicted of killing a Liberty motorcyclist and leaving the accident scene in 2007 has asked a Trumbull County judge to be released from prison a year early.

Dwayne M. Redinger Jr., 23, was convicted of misdemeanor aggravated-vehicular homicide and felony tampering with evidence and failure to stop after an accident for killing Michael D. Brown, 38, a father of three from Sampson Drive, on Aug. 16.

The accident was at state Route 82 and Collar-Price Road in Brookfield.

Redinger was southbound on Collar-Price in a pickup when he entered the intersection, hitting Brown as Brown traveled west on Route 82. Brown had no stop sign, but Redinger did.

Redinger fled the scene and removed a distinctive window sticker from the truck.

Nine months later, after police received an anonymous letter, they interviewed Redinger. He surrendered to police and admitted his role in the accident a couple days later.

A hearing was in Judge John Stuard’s courtroom Thursday on the matter, with a member of Brown’s family asking the judge to keep Redinger in prison another year.

Judge Stuard said he will decide the matter sometime after Jan. 1.
