Parade magazine plans story on Youngstown’s revitalization
STAFF REPORT
YOUNGSTOWN — A reporter from Parade magazine will visit Youngstown for a story on the city’s revitalization efforts and Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams.
Reporter Bill Donahue will be in Youngstown on Wednesday for the article. It isn’t known when the article will appear in the magazine.
Parade is the latest in a long line of media outlets to come to Youngstown for an article on its shrinking-city concept.
The plan embraces Youngstown’s population decline with a focus on making that work to the city’s advantage. The plan, known as Youngstown 2010, has met with mixed results.
Television and radio stations along with newspapers in Germany, France, Australia, England and the Netherlands have reported on the city, as have national publications such as USA Today, The Washington Post and The New York Times Magazine.
Parade magazine, included in Sunday editions of The Vindicator, last mentioned Youngstown in May 2006, honoring 325 W. Federal St. among 11 historic sites. The location is where Harry Burt created the Good Humor Bar, the nation’s first ice cream on a stick.
