Lower health care costs through better living

Lower health care costs through better living

EDITOR:

One of the quickest ways to keep health care costs down would be through a wellness program to show people how to eat better and exercise. The government could also step in and stop them from adding chemicals to the food we eat and make them grow it naturally. Instead of bailing out companies that tank because of their own greed and stupidity, teach people not only what to eat but show them how to grow and raise their own food.

Also teach them how to exercise. You don’t need expensive equipment to exercise, something as simple as walking, swimming or riding a bike will do.

White flour, white sugar and hydrogenated fats have destroyed the American diet. Pasteurization of milk didn’t help either. It destroys the nutritional value of the milk as well as helpful bacteria.

As long as the number of people pre-disposed to heart attack, diabetes and high blood pressure continues to grow, no plan (Republican and Democrat) is going to work.

Getting everyone back in shape won’t resolve all health care problems but it would be a good start.

If the hospitals and doctors are told to treat all the insured, how does this lower the cost of health care? Someone has to pay for this, it’s not like a magician pulling a rabbit out of his hat.

How many working class people benefited from the stimulus package? I’d hazard a guess it’s the same number who will benefit from health care reform. Health care does need reform but why not take enough time to ensure it’s done right.

If the politicians are all that concerned why don’t they sponsor so many of these uninsured in their health care plan? Reader’s Digest offered more realistic reform measures than I’ve heard from any politician.

It’s hard to eat right with the convenience and availability of junk food, but it makes more sense to eat right, exercise and stay healthy than to depend on some self-serving politician to provides care for you when you’re no longer well.

You can’t force people to do the right thing so maybe if they could find cheaper insurance for losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle it might work.

We’re going to have to find solutions for the problem in this country ourselves. I don’t see the politicians helping the situation much if at all.

The spirit of Christmas is more than mere words

EDITOR:

I read about the good Christian ladies who are offended that people say happy holidays. And they are spending their money on billboards preaching that it is Merry Christmas.

I say happy holidays because four religions celebrate the end of December as a holiday. So it is not politically correct but just common courtesy to wish everyone a happy holiday.

Instead of buying a billboard so all can see what good Christians they are, they could have used the money for something else. Remember, Jesus fed the hungry, healed the sick and in the ultimate act of unselfish love died for our salvation. But, hey, let us spend money because people don’t say Merry Christmas.

After all He did for us, we have learned nothing.
