Student art shown, sold at mall
Everything at the art sale was $20 and under.
NILES — Angelica Lelesch, a high school junior, said she felt “proud and happy” every time items she made sold at a holiday art show and sale at the Eastwood Mall.
“It’s nice that something I created is going to be in someone else’s home,” said Lelesch, of Leavittsburg.
“It’s great to see my work for sale and for people to say nice things about it.”
A variety of artwork created by Lelesch and 25 other students in Nancy Jones’ interior-design class at Trumbull Career and Technical Center was for sale and on display Saturday at the Eastwood Mall’s Art Outreach Center.
Everything was $20 and under.
The work included floral designs, art-glass pins, art-glass paintings, cards, magnets and drawings. Much of it was holiday-oriented.
Karen Tascione of Girard was at the mall shopping for gifts when she saw the TCTC sale.
“I can’t believe it’s all the [students’] designs; that’s what makes them special,” she said. “I’m buying a lot of stuff for the home and the office. The prices are unbelievable — $5 for this and $5 for that. It’s such beautiful work.”
The interior-design class not only teaches the artistic end, but also the business part, Jones said. Saturday’s sale was the culmination of the latter.
“The students packaged them professionally and are here helping to sell them,” Jones said. “We teach them about not only art, but about merchandising it.”
Kendra Marsteller, a junior from Kinsman, was excited to have her work in the show and sale.
“I’m showing my real self” through the art “and it’s great that people like it,” she said.
This is the first holiday art show and sale for TCTC at the mall.
Jones said they’ll be back.
“It’s been very successful this year,” she said. “It’s wonderful that the Warren Junior Women’s League and the Cafaro Co. provide the space to showcase the students’ work. This was so successful and we’ll do it again.”
