Thomas More 95, Westminster 80

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Westminster College men’s basketball team absorbed a loss at home to defending Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) champion Thomas More. The Titans fall to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the PAC, while the Saints up their record to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. Four Titans scored in double figures, led by junior guard Max Spinner with 15 points on 6-11 shooting from the field. Sophomore forward Rob Briggs bucketed a season-high 14 points while grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Freshman guards Liam Halferty and Ron Martino (Mooney) each scored 13 points for the Titans,

Washington & Jefferson 78, Thiel 65

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Despite a second half run that pulled the Tomcats to within three, the Washington & Jefferson Presidents overcame Thiel College. Down by nine points with just over 10 minutes to play in regulation, junior Devon Adams kicked off the Tomcats’ 8-3 run with a 3-pointer. Blair Rozenblad (Kennedy Catholic) hit a free throw and Aundra Jones (Kennedy Catholic) and Sean Devinney each chipped in jumpers to pull Thiel within striking distance, 60-57. The Presidents came roaring back to gain their largest lead of the game – 14 points – just five minutes later. Thiel had three players reach double-digit scoring totals, led by Adams who compiled a game-high 21. Rozenblad tossed in 14 in just nine minutes of work, while senior Cory Chaffee notched 13 points.

Grove City 76, Waynesburg 59

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Grove City College men’s basketball team improved to 2-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference beating host Waynesburg. Grove City trailed 34-31 at halftime but took control of the game with an 11-0 run late in the second half. Senior center Andy O’Keefe recorded nine of the 11 points during the outburst, including 7-for-7 marksmanship at the foul line. O’Keefe finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds as four Grove City scored in double figures. Junior forward Luke Tomaselli fired in 13 points and added five assists while senior guard Joe McCoy added 12 points. Sophomore guard Brett Matson posted 10 points, all in the second half.

Mount Union 64, Ohio Northern 58

ALLIANCE — Sophomore forward Matt Wier (New Castle) scored a career-high 28 points as he led Mount Union to an Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Ohio Northern. The win kept the Purple Raiders a perfect 5-0 at home on the season as Mount Union now stands at 5-3 overall and tied in second place early in the OAC season at 3-1. Ohio Northern fell to 4-4 overall and is in that 3-1 logjam in second place in the OAC.

Bethany 60, Geneva 55

BETHANY, W.Va. — Sophomore Anne Wilson scored a game-high 18 points and freshman Taylor Kress (Sharpsville) recorded her first career double-double, as the Bethany women’s basketball team toppled Geneva.

The Bison’s second consecutive victory improved their record to 3-5, while the Golden Tornadoes dropped to 4-5. Wilson went 4-for-5 from three-point land on her way to the game-high 18 markers. Bethany’s 52-35 advantage on the glass was highlighted by a career-high 14 boards from sophomore Renee Shepherd who also had eight points, and Kress, who tossed in 11 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Geneva was led by Alyse Scarsella with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Thomas More 78, Westminster 55

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — In a game between the two teams tied for first place in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), Westminster College women’s basketball team lost at home against No. 9 Thomas More. Thomas More, ranked No. 9 in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches’ Poll, improves to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the league. Westminster drops to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the league. The Titans trailed by one point, 35-34, in the opening seconds of the second half when freshman guard Jenn Cantella knocked down a 3-pointer. Cantella made her first career start in place of injured guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald), the PAC’s third-leading scorer with 13.4 points per game, who did not play for Westminster. Cantella tied a career high with 14 points to lead the Titans, including 5-9 shooting from the field and 4-5 shooting from 3-point range.

Kenyon 67, Hiram 53

HIRAM — Hiram College women’s basketball team dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference game to Kenyon College. With the loss, the Terriers are now 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC. Kenyon improved to 6-3 overall and 1-1 NCAC. Kenyon was led by Morgan Korinek with a game-high 17 points on five-of-nine shooting (55.6 percent). She also grabbed a game-tying high 10 rebounds.

Grove City 76, Waynesburg 56

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Three Grove City players scored in double figures to help lift the Wolverines to past Waynesburg in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action. Junior forward Christine Slater collected 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the win for the Wolverines (4-4, 2-1 PAC) while senior forward Krista Beechy tallied 15 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Leah Gibson fired in 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting as Grove City earned its third straight win.

Mount Union 78, Ohio Northern 76 (OT)

ALLIANCE — Mount Union’s women’s basketball team rallied from 11 points down in the second half to force overtime and then defeated Ohio Northern, Sophomore forward Amanda Rose scored all 19 of her points in the second half and overtime along with a game-high 14 rebounds to keep Mount Union undefeated at 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the OAC. Morgan Dumbaugh had a game-high 27 points to lead Ohio Northern (3-4, 1-2 OAC).
