Route 170 residents offered chance to move mailboxes
POLAND
Certain residents living on the west side of busy Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road might no longer have to cross the road each day to collect their mail.
Township Administrator James Scharville said during Tuesday’s trustees meeting that homeowners between 6836 and 7344 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road (state Route 170) can contact the Poland Post Office for permission to move their own mailboxes to their side of the road by calling 330-757-1107 and asking for a supervisor.
Residents living on the west side of that stretch of Route 170, many of whom are elderly, have their boxes on the opposite side, and heavy traffic makes it difficult for many of them to cross, Scharville noted.
Residents will need to obtain permission to make the move; otherwise, the post office won’t deliver their mail, he explained.
Anyone with questions is advised to call the township building at 330-757-0733.
In other business, officials voted to promote full-time patrolman Dan Aracich to sergeant.
Effective Jan. 1, Aracich, a nine-year member of the Poland Township Police Department, will make $26.66 per hour, up from his hourly salary of $24.83.
Part of Aracich’s duties included running a police-dog program for about four years.
Also at the session, trustees voted to close Poland Township Park off Moore Road on Dec. 13 and reopen it this spring.
