Red kettles in 7 Austintown locations

AUSTINTOWN

It’s that time of year again. The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is in full swing this holiday season. Bells are ringing as people drop their coins and dollars into that red kettle.

Austintown red kettles are located at Giant Eagle, IGA, Kmart, Walmart, Walgreens, Big Lots, and the post office.

But the holidays aren’t the only time the Salvation Army is at work. The Salvation Army is one of the best kept secrets in the Valley.

Day after day, week after week, month after month - all year through – The Salvation Army works quietly behind the scenes doing what they do best - helping people.

However, this time of year is most important for the Salvation Army. A little known fact is that 75 percent of the local Salvation Army’s annual budget is raised through the Red Kettle Campaign.

In 2009, The Salvation Army increased its assistance to the community by more than 45 percent. In trying to do good for as many people as possible, there are more hot lunches served, more families are receiving bags of groceries, and less children will go without a Christmas due to assistance with toys. Households with three or more members will receive turkeys and food vouchers for the Christmas season as well.

For many people, The Salvation Army is the first line of compassion. When people wring their hands in despair, The Salvation Army is there to meet the community neighbors at the point of their need.

That need is growing, but you can help. The Red Kettle campaign gives you the opportunity to provide support and encouragement to the people who are struggling. In these economic times, no one can do everything but everyone can do something.

When you hear the bell’s ring as you pass a Red Kettle, reach into your hearts and pockets and give generously to help a fellow member this season.
