Youth’s smile recalled at funeral mass

BOARDMAN — Sniffles and quiet sobs filled St. Charles Church this morning for the funeral mass for Cardinal Mooney High School senior Colin Hart.

Colin always wore a smile on his face, made his friends laugh and looked on the bright side of things, his classmates said.

After suffering a near loss in a league world series, fellow student and baseball teammate Mark Warchol turned to look at Colin who was smiling.

When Mark asked why, Colin said, “‘It’s OK man, we’ve got a whole year to come back and do it all over again,’” Mark told the packed church.

“Through the darkness, he always saw the light,” Mark added.

Police found the bodies of Colin, 18, and Jamie Serich, 17, both of the township, early Sunday in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

They suspect the deaths were a result of either murder-suicide or double-suicide and are awaiting results of gunshot residue tests to make that determination.
