Powter’s ‘Bad Day’ tops one-hit-wonders list
NEW YORK — As far as one-hit wonders go, Daniel Powter is king of them all — for this decade, at least.
Powter, whose hit “Bad Day” reigned on top of the Billboard pop charts for five weeks in 2006, was named as the decade’s top one-hit wonder by Billboard.
The magazine describes one-hit wonders as acts whose second hit did not reach the top 25; they included acts only from 2000 to 2007, since someone from last year just might be taking a break.
No. 2 on their list is the Terror Squad for “Lean Back”; No. 3 is Crazy Town with “Butterfly”; No. 4 is MIMS with “This Is Why I’m Hot”; and No. 5 is D4L with “Laffy Taffy.”
Crash injures singer, so Weezer cancels tour
ALBANY, N.Y. — Weezer has canceled the rest of its December tour after the lead singer was injured in a bus crash in New York.
Rivers Cuomo and band assistant Sarah Kim suffered minor injuries when the group’s tour bus skidded on ice, struck a guide rail and slid into a ditch Sunday.
Cuomo and Kim were hospitalized after the accident in the upstate New York town of Glen. That’s about 40 miles west of Albany. They were traveling to a show in Boston.
Cuomo’s condition isn’t clear.
A message on the band’s Web site says Weezer is canceling the rest of its Raditude tour and will try to reschedule those dates.
Publicist: Joel’s daughter is staying with her dad
NEW YORK — A publicist says the daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley is staying with her father two days after being treated in New York for a possible overdose of pills.
Alexa Ray Joel’s publicist Claire Mercuri won’t say where the 23-year-old is staying. Billy Joel has homes in Manhattan and on eastern Long Island.
His daughter was hospitalized for several hours Saturday after police received a 911 call saying she had taken several pills.
Police say it is not clear whether she accidentally overdosed or attempted suicide.
