Adrian Biviano receives county auditors’ award

Adrian S. Biviano, Trumbull County auditor, was recently given the Distinguished County Auditor award by the County Auditors Association of Ohio.

The award recognizes auditors who have completed 100 or more hours of continuing education during their term of office. Biviano was recognized at the CAAO conference Nov. 17.

Ohio law requires county auditors to complete at least 24 hours of continuing education during a four-year term. Biviano took classes on standards of mass appraisal, planning and technical issues in county audits, certified public records training and mandatory classes in ethics and substance abuse.

Medina honored with Law Enforcement Medal

Detective Sgt. Jose Medina of the Jacksonville, Fla., Police Department, formerly of Youngstown, was recently honored with the Law Enforcement Medal of Florida for his annual 1,000-mile bike from Jacksonville to Washington, D.C., to honor fallen law enforcement officers.

The medal, provided by the Jacksonville Chapter, Florida Society Sons of the American Revolution, is given to officers “that have demonstrated outstanding duty performance in serving their community.”

Medina, a 1978 East High School graduate and who served in the Air Force for 20 years, has been with the department for 111‚Ñ2 years.

He makes a yearly 1,000-mile bike ride from Jacksonville to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., to honor all fallen law- enforcement officers. He recently conducted his own research on a Jacksonville officer killed in the line of duty more than 80 years ago but was never recognized for his sacrifice.

Medina submitted the officer’s name for recognition, and the request was approved. The name of officer Charles Benjamin Jones has now been added to the national roll of fallen officers.

Medina is married to the former Debra Gonzales of Youngstown. He is planning another ride next year. The Web site to follow Medina is www.bike2honor.com

Sarah Denney Dolak earns juris doctorate degree

Sarah J. Denney Dolak of Canfield recently earned her juris doctorate from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

Dolak passed the Ohio Bar Exam in July and is currently living in Zurich, Switzerland. She took her oath as a new lawyer on Nov. 20.

She graduated magna cum laude from John Carroll University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She is a 2002 honors graduate of Canfield High School and is the daughter of Nancy J. Denney and the late Atty. John G. Denney of Canfield. Her husband is Corey J. Dolak.
