Background

Early years: The church was founded in 1930 and its current building was erected in 1938. The first full-time pastor was Andrew Marsteller and coincidentally, he was the grandfather-in-law of the current pastor, George Helewa. The early days of the church could be summed up, as one observer said, “The Struthers Baptist Tabernacle has as its mission the salvation of souls.”

Activities: The church has sent out dozens of missionaries around the world. A number of churches in the area have their roots at the Tabernacle including Poland Village Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church and Old North Church of Canfield. In 1945, the church started the first Youth for Christ Rallies in the area.

Membership: The church has officially had almost 400 members over its history as well as scores of attendees and visitors.

End result: Church Care, a ministry of Baptist Church Planters, will be assuming the property and maintaining it until it can be sold. When the building sells and any other assets are liquidated, the church will contribute a portion of those funds directly to the work of our supported missionaries in the field.
