Polian has YSU interest

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Irish Illustrated Web site reports that Notre Dame assistant coach Brian Polian has interviewed for the Youngstown State head football coaching position.
Youngstown State Athletic Director Ron Strollo was out of town and unavailable for comment.
The site said that Polian was interviewed on Nov. 24 and is considered a serious candidate for the position.
Polian is the Irish special teams coordinator and also has assisted in coaching linebackers and defensive backs during his five-year tenure with Notre Dame.
Polian’s career also includes coaching running backs and serving as recruiting coordinator at Central Florida (2004) as well as coaching running backs and special teams at Buffalo (2001-03).
The 34-year old assistant was voted one of the nation’s Top 25 recruiters last year by Rivals.com for his efforts in helping Notre Dame sign Manti Te’o, Shaquelle Evans, Cierre Wood and Roby Toma.
Polian is the son of Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian. The Irish assistant’s older brother, Chris Polian, is the Colts vice president and general manager.
Strollo is in Montana where as a member of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Selection Committee, is overseeing today’s FCS playoff game between Montana and Stephen F. Austin.
