Men’s top 25 \ Wednesday’s other games

No. 1 Kansas 98, Alcorn St. 31

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Cole Aldrich had 13 points and 16 rebounds, and top-ranked Kansas scored 36 straight points in the first half in an embarrassingly easy victory. Kansas (6-0) made quick work of the Braves, forcing a school record-tying 30 turnovers and dunking its way within one of the NCAA record for consecutive points with its big run. Sherron Collins and Xavier Henry had 18 points each, and Thomas Robinson had 15 points and 10 rebounds to help Jayhawks stretch the nation’s longest home winning streak to 46 games. Alcorn State (0-10) never stood much of chance against the nation’s No. 1 team.

No. 3 Villanova 77, Drexel 58

VILLANOVA, Pa. — Antonio Pena scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Taylor King added 16 points as Villanova overcame a sluggish start. Scottie Reynolds had 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Wildcats (7-0), who improved to 18-1 all-time against the Dragons. Villanova has won 32 consecutive games at The Pavilion, its 6,500-seat arena. The streak began with a 102-87 win over Notre Dame on Jan. 17, 2007. Derrick Thomas scored a career-high 23 points while Chris Fouch added a career-high 20 for Drexel (3-5), which shot 31 percent (18 of 58).

No. 11 Tennessee 78, ETSU 66

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tyler Smith scored 15 points and Tennessee held off scrappy East Tennessee State. A steal and a fastbreak layup by ETSU’s Justin Tubbs with 15:52 left cut the Vols’ lead to 42-39. Tennessee (6-1) answered with an 11-2 run capped by a layup by Wayne Chism that boosted the lead to 53-41. Tubbs led the Buccaneers (4-4) with 22 points.

No. 14 Connecticut 92, Boston U. 64

HARTFORD, Conn. — Jerome Dyson scored 22 points and Connecticut bounced back from its first loss of the season with a rout of Boston University. Kemba Walker had 15 points and 10 assists for the Huskies (5-1), while Stanley Robinson added 16 points and nine rebounds. Gavin Edwards chipped in with 12 points and nine boards. John Holland led the Terriers (2-6) with 23 points and Jake O’Brien added 18 points and 10 rebounds. UConn, which was outrebounded by 13 in its loss to No. 6 Duke last Friday, had no problems with the smaller Terriers, outrebounding them 54-29.

No. 20 Louisville 80, Stetson 48

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jerry Smith broke out of a shooting slump to score 17 points and lead Louisville. Samardo Samuels added 15 points and seven rebounds while Edgar Sosa had 15 points and five assists for the Cardinals (5-1), who had little trouble bouncing back from a loss to UNLV last Saturday. A.J. Smith led the Hatters (2-5) with 18 points, but Stetson shot 35 percent from the field and was simply no match for Louisville once the Cardinals got going midway through the first half. Louisville used an 11-0 run to take control after a sluggish start.

No. 23 Butler 59, Ball St. 38

MUNCIE, Ind. — No. 23 Butler opened with a flurry of 3-pointers, locked down on defense and rolled to its 14th consecutive win against a fellow school from Indiana. The Bulldogs (5-2) needed a confidence boost after losing two of three games, both to Top 25 opponents, on their recent trip to California, and the Cardinals (2-3) were the perfect remedy. Gordon Hayward, last season’s Horizon League newcomer of the year, scored 15 points and had eight rebounds for Butler.
