Groundbreaking set for plant

WARREN β€” Reinforcement Systems of Ohio will have a ground-breaking ceremony today for its new manufacturing plant at West Market Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Mark Marvin, a Warren native and owner of the start-up company, will be joined by officials from the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber for the 1:30 p.m. ceremony.

The $20 million plant is expected to employ up to 65 workers.

β€œIt is one of the largest private-sector investments in the city of Warren in some time,” said Walt Good, chamber vice president for economic development.

The company will make custom-engineered welded wire reinforcements used in concrete products, such as stadiums.

Earlier this year, city and county officials approved a 75-percent abatement on property taxes for 10 years.

In return for the abatement, the company pledged to have 25 employees its first year, 40 by its second year and 65 by its third year.

The city rezoned the 16.5 acres of land to industrial to accommodate the company. The land has never been used before, city officials said.
