Christmas ice-skating show at Covelli Centre
YOUNGSTOWN — Skating Club of Greater Youngstown will present “Christmas On Ice,” its annual holiday ice-skating show, at 2 p.m. Sunday at Covelli Centre, with a free skate after the show. The show re-creates the holiday sights and sounds of New York’s Rockefeller Center and includes a 35-foot Christmas tree at center ice. A cast of more than 60 skaters, along with the club’s three synchronized skating teams, will complete the performance.
Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door, from any club member or by calling Skating Club of Greater Youngstown at (330) 502-7528. Showgoers can bring their ice skates for the post-show skating. A limited number of rental skates will be available for $4. Free lessons also will be available from the staff.
Art student exhibition at McDonough Museum
YOUNGSTOWN — The McDonough Museum of Art’s Graduating BFA Show opens Friday with a reception at 4 p.m. and runs through Dec. 19. The show features work by Youngstown State University art students who are graduating in the fall semester.
The museum is on Wick Avenue, across from the Butler Institute of American Art. Hours are 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free.
Music, humor show benefits cancer group
LIBERTY — An entertainment program to benefit Christina’s Garden will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty High School auditorium. Performers will include musicians Leigh Jaffer and Joe Falleti, who will play contemporary hits and original songs; and humorist John Hudson, who will share inspirational stories of life in small-town Ohio. There also will be concessions, a baked-goods sale and a raffle.
Christina’s Garden is a nonprofit organization created to assist cancer patients and their loved ones. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or by e-mailing Jack Savage at jack@christinasgarden.org.
Oakland is seeking parade participants
YOUNGSTOWN — The Oakland Center for the Arts is looking for parade participants. Volunteers, actors, crew, board members and audience members are welcome to join the theater company in the Downtown Youngstown Holiday Parade at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Oakland contingent will wear costumes from its past shows.
Anyone interested is asked to arrive at the Oakland, 220 W. Boardman St., downtown, by 2 p.m. Saturday to find a costume and make a sign to carry. Candy will be provided. Dress accordingly for the weather.
